The New Band

Seems the new band is a go!  We’ve got everyone except the singer on board.  We’ve even got a guaranteed show every month if we accept.  I’ve extremely stoked about this!  First practice is this Sunday.  Hopefully everything will run smoothly and we can get some audio samples up here before our first show.

We’ve cemented a band name, Red Letter Date.

MPAA Warning

You wouldn’t charge a person for bread twice if they wanted to slice it.

You wouldn’t charge a person for gas twice if they wanted to use it in their lawnmower and their trimmer.

You wouldn’t charge a person for steak twice if they asked for a box to take it home.

Yet this is exactly what the MPAA and the RIAA want you to do! Their DRM force you to either pay for something twice, or become a criminal in their eyes. Why do we put up with this? Why do we not stand our ground? Why do our politicains bend over backwards for these people? The time to fight back is now! Don’t stand by and let them control how and what you buy. Stand your ground, it’s what all the action movie heros do!

Mission Completed

Well the job is done. Last night was my wife’s last day as youth minister at our church, a position she’s been doing for almost five years now. Pray the youth group will continue with no permanent person replacing the position as of now and parents stepping up to fill the gap.

Video Rewind

The past two days I helped some friends with a school project video. I took them through the process of planning, creating a shot list, filming, editing, and authoring. I must say, I enjoyed it. The video will hopefully get them a good grade and be a standout of the assignment. More than simply helping out, I got the old feeling I haven’t had in a while. The feeling that I’m creating something brand new that others can enjoy and experience. I miss that feeling.

One of the guys said he enjoyed it so much that he wants to make videos more often, plus Tim, my video other half, has said he’s itching to get the old gang back together to film something. Could it be that Rabbid Rabbit has a future? Could there be a return of our videos? Does anyone care now that videos are all over the internet? Could we distinguish ourselves from the other guys?

To be honest, I don’t know if anyone will care if we make new videos….but I’d have fun finding out! Perhaps there will be some video happenings soon.

Birth of a Band

It seems that the time has come to create a new band at church. Currently I am a member of a band at my church called Second String. We play traditional music in the church, and the old people seem to like it. Leave it to us to say the day after they start requesting we play every week to form a band that will bust their hearing aid!

The problem comes that as a band our sound doesn’t match our musical preferences. I know I’m not listening to a piano version of Amazing Grace in my car. No, I’m listening to The Dropkick Murpheys belt it out! I’m not listening to the music of Fanny Crosby at home. No, I’m listening to The Misfits, Goldfinger, and Interpol. Our new band will be more like these bands.

That’s right people. We want to form a Christian Punk band! Ghoti Hook, Hawk Nelson, MxPx, and us. Too cool!

Of course our church will hate it and never allow us to play in front of them, but that’s just fine. It’s not for them anyway.

Thank God You’re Here

It was with much excitement that I sat down with my glass of sweet tea and switched the televsion over to NBC. Typically my boob tube watching is limited to The Office on Thursdays, but the plugs for Thank God You’re Here sparked my improv interest. So at 9:00 I sat ready and willing to laugh at the ‘off the top of their head’ comedy stylings of four guest celebrities, but unfortunitly the laughs never came… nor did the celebries for that matter.

The format of the show is simple. A performer is dressed up and possibly given a prop. They are then pushed through a door into an acting scene that always begins with the line that conveinitly is the name of the show, Sorry This Is The Best We Can Do Thank God You’re Here. The performers have never seen the set before, they have never seen the script before, and they have never seen top billing of their name before. The performer must then craft the scene to be hilarious using their God given talent for improv, of which only the camera man has any unfortunitly.

The show is hosted by David Allen Grier, straight off his 5 year stint as a door greeter at Walmart. Unfortunitly his hosting job for this show differs from his previous job in that I often times point and laugh at the door greeters at Walmart. His attempts to be funny and comical reminded me of Martin Lawrence. You chuckle when you first see him because you are surprised he still has a job in show business, then you slowly bite through your tongue in agony because he still has a job in show business.

This VD on the face of comedy is judged by Dave Foley. Its obvious he did not write any skits for The Kids in the Hall and instead decided to use his “talents” for NewsRadio, a show that put Andy Dick in the households of millions everynight. Someone will burn forever for that casting call I’m sure.

Overall the show was extremely off balance and lacking any real sence of comedic timing. It seemed the performers were only attempting to hit one line zingers instead of going for an overall funny scene. This is perfectly fine if the performer has the chops to pull this off, but not a single one of them did. Every joke fell flat. It was amazing. I’ve heard better jokes from John Kerry and Michael Richards.

Can this show be saved? Yes. Can the show be funny? Yes. Can NBC invest extra money into the show to get real talent? I doubt it. I forsee this as being a vehicle for them to display the comedy skills of actors on their own network. I bet next week we will see the guy in the background of the bar in My Name is Earl be a celebrity preformer, the tiolet lady on 30 Rock, the guy who holds the camera on The Office who you only see his arm, Tracy Morgon, etc. I’m sure all these has beens will pop up on the show, and the audience will cheer and yell and screem for them like they are someone special.

If tonight’s show was anything like the rest of the series will be then I’m sure there are millions of people like me who will see the axe coming for the show and scream at the top of our lungs “Thank God You’re Here…..take me first! “

Super Paper Mario (Wii): First Impressions

We picked Super Paper Mario for the Wii yesterday at Target. 5 seconds after returning home I had the box open and was seconds away from playing.

The concept of this game is very cool. You have the ability to switch back and forth from3D and 2D, making for a very interesting dynamic never before seen in a Mario game.

The overall game thus far is still a little easy, but I’m sure the difficulty will increase as time goes by and I get to higher levels. The game fuses RPG elements with the classic Mario genre. You pickup items, level up, and have to talk with people, but there are no battle screens or mana.

The only problem I have with the game thus far is the story. Man o man, where is the “skip this crap” option? It drug on for 20 minutes before I ever played a single level! What happened to putting the story in the booklet and just letting the game start?

So far I’m very much enjoying the game and hope it only gets better from here.

Imified - Blog posting from Google Talk

I’m giving Imified a chance to see how well it works with WordPress. If this thing works well I think it’ll save me a lot of time.

Wii updated itself last night

Anyone else see the pretty lights of their Wii last night? It means that it has either become possessed by a demon named Captain Howdie, or it updated itself last night and now allows for the final Opera version to be installed. Take your pick which one of the two it is.

I haven’t checked the final Opera version out yet, but man I hope they fixed that thing up. No tabs, slow speeds, clumky controls, slow speeds, autorefreshing of flash content, slow speeds; I pray all of these plus the slow speeds have been addressed…hopefully to somewhere in Iraq so our boys can destroy them with gun fire!
